As I asked you on the home page, can you identify the decorating styles in your home? Reading designer magazines may put you in the know, but chances are you'll need a little more help than that. If you hire a home stager, you'll get plenty of help, but if you're a do-it-yourselfer or don't know who to trust, try reading my articles and add them to your other sources. I can guide you and you can begin to learn about decorating styles in a few short articles. It could be a lot of fun and along the way you'll get designing tips and terms that the pros use.

Staging is generally thought to apply just to those who want to prepare their home for sale. However, the principles that govern this area are basically the same as those that good decorators use. Our home is the largest statement we make about ourselves and the more we know about what constitutes good style, the better we can represent ourselves. That's why I call what I do Home Staging and Styling, not simply staging or decorating.

To start with, we are going to treat the first group of articles as mini modules. They will be enjoyable as well as stimulating. We will explore decorating terms and dialogue that the professionals use. As things unfold they will help you understand why some things work or don't work. Understanding is always the key to accomplishing anything.

So, if your goal is to redesign that guest room or change the look of the family room, then hopefully these articles will give you some tools and confidence you will need to tackle those projects. Remember that this information is just that, information. Information is like a blueprint to guide your way. That coupled with your improvisation and imagination can greatly help your decorating schemes.

Later I hope to get into other staging tips and tricks that you can bring to your home. We may dip in and out of our mini modules to highlight various things as they come along. All in all, I think we can have fun together in our Home Staging and Styling journey and I'd like to share some of the information, skills and experiences that I have acquired with you through these articles.

Start thinking about what you want to change in your home. As you do, the creative juices will start to flow.

Until next time, happy Home Staging and Styling.
